Thursday, February 6 - At Sea in the Antarctic

Today was all about the icebergs.  Look what we saw outside our balcony window this morning.

And at breakfast up on Deck 11:

It almost looks like another cruise ship

Just when I think I have enough iceberg pictures, another interesting one comes along.  I liked the finger-like things on the left side.

They seem alarmingly close to the ship to me,

The perspective is hard to get in a photo, but this huge one was clearly much higher than the ship.

Tried to get a photo with the huge iceberg in the background, but it doesn't do it justice.

Someone spotted a whale

There he is - a humpback.  We saw several of them just "logging" around as the naturalists said.  I believe that means they were sleeping.

We went into several bays over the day.  It wasn't very windy, but it was cold and overcast most of the time, unfortunately.  It even snowed a few times.  Some of the crew members were very excited about that as they'd never seen it before.

This is called pancake ice, or its formation.  It's thin layers of ice in almost perfect circles that stay together.

There weren't any lectures today as there was so much to see.  However, there was a lull in sightseeing so we went to Trivia but it was only Roger and us.  We were terrible with only 8/15.  We had dinner for two at Chartreuse and were seated at a window seat so we could continue to see the "show" as we sailed along.
