Tuesday, February 4 - At Sea

The weather didn't improve too much overnight and it is really cold outside now.  We haven't been up to the Veranda buffet on Deck 11 since yesterday morning as the movement is still strong.  The captain said we weren't able to increase our speed much overnight, so we probably won't be getting to Elephant Island until around 11 pm tonight.  He said he'd linger and perhaps use some spotlights so everyone will get a chance to see the penguins.  I think I'll stay in our cabin in my bathrobe and see if I can get pictures that way.

There were a couple of lectures today.  The first was about Shakelton's misadventure here in 1914-16.  I don't know how those men survived these conditions.  The second was  about Antarctica and how it formed and what we'll see over the next few days.  Napped after lunch and 4 of us at Trivia (Bo didn't come today) got 11/15 for one point.

Tonight was the Seven Seas Society Party.  We've been to almost every one so decided to skip it today.  But on these party nights, they have the miso-glazed Chilean sea bass which is one of my favorites on the menu.  Then back early to the cabin where we will sleep early so as to be up when we get to Elephant Island.

The seas have really calmed down during the day and it is very comfortable now with just enough movement to remind you that you're on a ship.  We are getting some of the moaning again from our balcony door.  It seems to be related to the wind, so we're really hoping it goes away soon.
